Family Dining

Eating together is a healthy habit.

Eating together is special and meaningful in many ways. People have been gathering around the table for a delicious meal since the beginning of time. Whether it is for a special occasion or just a normal Friday night meal, families around the world gather to eat together.

These days, this simple part of everyday life has become less and less common. Busy families, especially with older children, "fend for themselves", so everyone eats at different times. The only time some families eat together is when there are guests over or some distant relative is in town. On those occasions, it becomes a special event when they break out the good silverware and pretend that’s how they do it every day.

Nothing brings a family closer together than a good meal in front of them. Many studies have shown this to be true. Kids behave better, adults feel better, it’s an overall good thing. ScienceDaily.com says that “children who routinely eat their meals together with their family are more likely to experience long-term physical and mental health benefits.

Whether it is a home cooked meal or just some pizza ordered over the phone nothing brings a family together the way food does. It is like an invisible glue that holds us all together at the table and keeps us held together throughout our days.

Family dining helps the members connect with each other. Put down the phones and start passing the green beans and talking about each other’s day. It's amazing how self-absorbed we can be, staring at tiny little screens all of the time. Once everyone is seated at the table, phones should be put away and attention should set on each other. That's when families are the strongest.

Families dining out together, are still eating together. Busy Eastern Iowa families have many choices when dining out.  Local restaurants in are family focused and understand the importance of dining together.  They offer kid's night specials and children's menus throughout the year. Families are coming together and enjoying their time and a great meal with each other, all over Eastern Iowa.
