Eastern Iowa is a great place to live and an even better place to retire!
Iowa ranked in the top 10 best states for retirees, according to WalletHub's 2018 list. The list, created by a personal finance website, scores states according to 41 indicators, including affordability, health care, and quality of life. Ranking #4, Iowa was only out ranked by Florida, Colorado, and South Dakota.
According to the State Data Center of Iowa and the Iowa Department of Aging, there are an estimated 515,000 Iowans over the age of 65. Although Eastern Iowa has a relatively young demographic compared to the rest of the state, it is estimated that this will change over time. By the year 2050, studies suggest the Eastern Iowa population will be over 20% senior citizens.
Why do statistics matter? Because it is a window into the future and a chance to steer the community in the right direction. Every city should have a senior center and community services to accommodate residents over 55.
EasternIowaNow.com strives to build a support system for the seniors of our community by posting local resources and relevant articles and serving as an information hub. If you know of a senior service in our community that should be listed here and could help one of our fellow neighbors, please email us.
