Collective Data Adopts-a-Classroom

Collective Data is providing a “head start” for the school year at HACAP’s Hayes location. This Head Start classroom is co-located with Four Oaks services at 1924 D St. S.W. in Cedar Rapids. The Collective Data team will bring them three home-made, child-sized picnic tables, a puppet show stage, including puppets, and 2 boxes of art and school supplies. The scheduled drop-off is Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 9:30am.

Collective Data joined HACAP’s Adopt-a-Classroom program to give back to the community. The entrepreneurial-minded team is passionate about lifting up the Cedar Rapids community, especially under privileged children. Collective Shares®, a home-grown social responsibility initiative implemented about a year ago, guides the Collective Data team to participate in programs like Adopt-a-Classroom. “They all love this community and the people in it”, said Anne King, President. “Collective Shares® offers our team choices for giving back.”

HACAP’s Hayes location students are preschoolers ages 3-5. Two classrooms at the site share supplies and the basic funding typically leaves them short supplied. After just one month of collections the Collective Data team has plenty of crayons, glue sticks, tempera paint, construction paper, and much more to give. One employee and her spouse even build three child-sized picnic tables from scratch to donate to the classroom. “We love building things and it seemed like the right thing to do”, said Andie Carter, one of the table builders.

Head Start programs focus on the building of relationships within the first five years of a child’s life. Students learn how to interact with other children, family members, teachers, and the community. This critical time in a child’s life, as their brain develops faster than at any other time. “We feel good about choosing this classroom”, said Anne King, “and I can’t wait until they see that puppet show stage.” Collective Data plans on continuing the relationship with this classroom throughout the school year, providing them more supplies mid-year.

About HACAP HACAP is a local non-profit organization that is dedicated to improving human life, as well as empowering and improving the lives of those who suffer in poverty. They currently operate 14 head start centers in Linn, Johnson, Benton, Jones and Washington Counties. Limited funding makes it difficult for them to provide every item that is needed to promote positive early development. HACAP heavily relies on the support from community partners to fully supply all of their classrooms.
